Fairhaven United Methodist Church
Located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, Fairhaven is a very diverse small church where many cultural traditions blend to offer a unique worship experience. We are dedicated to sharing the love of God with everyone in our community. Fairhaven is a friendly and caring UMC church family where diversity is nurtured by faith. We work and grow together as partners in ministry, sharing the love of God by encouraging spiritual growth, providing a rich worship experience, welcoming all of God’s children into our fellowship, and serving the needs of our community.
Please join us at our Sunday service: 10:30 am Service, 11:30 am Coffee Hour.

Dear members of Fairhaven:
The following is an announcement that I made during the worship service on May 12th.
It is with great regret that I am informing you that Rev. Esther has decided to retire from full-time ministry. This is for personal reasons, specifically her desire to live nearer to and spend more time with her son and grandson. She will be accepting a part-time appointment at Forest Memorial United Methodist Church in PG County.
Bishop LaTrelle Easterling has appointed Reverend Kenneth Hawes as the new pastor of our congregation. He is currently the pastor at Hughes UMC in Wheaton. He received his Masters of Divinity in 1994 from Wesley Theological Seminary, after having earned his Masters in Music from Manhattan School of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts from the State University of NY at Purchase. I attach Rev. Hawes’ CV and a picture.
Ken’s passions in ministry are preaching, helping individuals and congregations grow in love and service to Christ, and seeking justice and peace in God’s world. He has served churches in Stamford CT, Croton on Hudson NY, Hagerstown MD, and Wheaton, MD.
An avid musician, he is the principal horn of the NIH Philharmonia, and performs with other area ensembles. Ken also enjoys baseball, hiking, biking, coffee roasting, and photography. He is married to Nancy Hammond, and they reside in Hyattsville with their retired greyhound, Lyric.
The transition between pastors will take place on July 1st of this year. Before then, we will have ample opportunity to thank Rev. Esther for her service to Fairhaven over the past five years, to tell her how much we will miss her, and to wish her well as she takes the next steps on her life’s journey. The Staff Parish Relations Committee have already met with Rev. Hawes, and will be making arrangements for all of our members to meet him, probably in small groups as soon as possible after he takes up his appointment.
